Athena Rising: How and Why Men Should Mentor Women by Co-authors W. Brad Johnson, PhD and David Smith, PhD

In a thorough and detailed manner they describe the importance of men mentoring women and how to do it in а constructive and productive way.  It’s the first book of this kind that I read. It’s written by guys for guys and addresses the men who read the book directly “guys, let’s be honest” is a recurring phrase. The book gives me hope! It’s based on a number of interviews of mentors and female mentees across industries with a lot of the cases from the navy. Success stories of where mentorship has been successful cross-genders. Men often mentor men as a part of how they socialize in and around work. It doesn’t happen the same way for women, so mentors have to actively reach out to women to mentor them, and obviously feel comfortable doing so. The authors leave no stone unturned, and address every issue that men are concerned about when working with, supporting, and mentoring women. There are over 40 concrete suggestions in the second part of the book that describe how the interaction should be handled, what the men should think about and do. The expectations and demands on the mentoring men are high, but even if half of the men do half of what’s expected and stay away from the “do not’s” women will have more support in the workplace than they have now!  Pick up the book today, if you want to learn how to advance women and make a difference in their professional life!  https://www.amazon.com/Athena-Rising-Should-Mentor-Women/dp/1629561517
